His Marriage

Nate's not into sports, but he really likes computer/video games. He's not excessive by any means (I know guys who play for 10 hrs a day,) he plays a bit on the week days, but more on the weekends. I'm the jealous type, but try to remind myself that he needs to be able to do his own thing too.

I can pray for Nate to stay balanced and to keep his priorities in check, but I think it's equally, if not more, important to pray that I have peace and the right perspective on it. We can work out a compromise and not put pressure on each other.

I don't believe divorce or adultery will apply to us but I can pray that we never see a hint of either.

"You have to continually pray that any unreal expectations be exposed and all incompatibilities be smoothed out so that you grow together in a spirit of unity, commitment and a bond of intimacy."

Pray that our marriage is a place where too people agree so God will be in the midst of it (Matt 18). Brake any ties - good or bad, emotional or spiritual - with any former relationships.
Don't take it for granted and pray that it be protected from any person or situation that seeks to destroy it.

I remember from our marriage counseling that Todd and Jess said "You can have a good marriage, but we want you to have an excellent marriage."

I believe that because of God, we do. And with God's help, it will always be true.

Dear Lord I pray that You protect our marriage from anything seeking to destroy it. That You shield it from our own selfishness and neglect and dangerous situations. May there be no thoughts of infidelity or divorce in our hearts or futures. Set us free from past hurts, memories, and dies from previous relationships and unrealistic expectations of one another. I pray that there will be no jealousy in either of us or low self-esteem that precedes that. Keep us from habits that would threaten our marriage and help us to stay intentional about building it and each other up. Unite us in a bond of friendship, commitment, generosity, and understanding. Eliminate our immaturity, hostility, or feelings of inadequacy. Help us to make time for each other alone to nuture and renew our marriage. I pray that both Nathan and I remain committed to You and each other. Amen.
