I just read the introduction of Stormie Omartian's The Power of a Praying Wife.
Points that got my attention:
After quoting Matt 19:5's leave and cleave verse she says that husband and wife are
-a team, one unite, unified in spirit
-the Holy Spirit unites them and gives added power to their prayers
-Satan will do whatever it takes to destroy that oneness by getting us to believe lies that, if believed, will harden our heart from hearing God's truth.
"When we Pray our hearts become soft toward God and we get a vision."
"The purpose is to ask God to make your heart right, show you how to be a good one, share the burdens of your soul, and seek God's blessing on your husband."
"Look to God as the source of all you want to see happen in your marriage, and don't worry about how it will happen. It's your responsibility to pray. It's God's joy to answer. Leave it in His hands."
Personal Reflection:
Prayer not been my favorite thing about Christianity. I LOVE talking with/to God. So not "talking" so much as "interceding." I kind of . . . almost . . . ok I think I avoid it to be truthful. And I always feel like somethings missing whenever I hear about great, faithful Christians: they all have a strong, steady, amazing prayer life.
So ok I want to get there. Someday. However, today, I started reading this book and hope that I can showcase true love in my prayers for Nathan. I hope to be his prayer warrior. He's hard to pray for: he doesn't do anything bad, or have any bad habits like fear, anxiety, insecurity, anger. Seriously. He doesn't. Even though he doesn't have major issues, he's a person. So there's plenty to pray for like our finances, his health, safety ect. (Even though I feel like those all benefit me a lot too . . .)
Basically, I really feel like there' something to this. I really believe that prayer is where it's at. So I have to get there. For my marriage tomorrow and one day, for my kids. There are so many pressures and struggles in life and verses and hymns alike tell us that prayer is where to go.
